After long scientific experiments and a lot of tries to interbreed two different types of cats, it has finally been done by one cat breeder from USA.
It happened in 1986. The first Savannah cat in the world was cubed by USA domestic cat paired with a wild African Feline Serval (Leptailurus Serval ). This breed was named “Savannah” by African Savannahs where these wild cats – Servals usually live.
After completing a long exploratory selection work in 1997, Savannah breed was presented to the society and instantly became very popular.
In the first few years there were only a few hundreds of Savannah cats, now there are several thousands of these cats. By the way the majority of them lives in the USA.
This cat breed was acknowledged and registered in TICA (The International Cat Association). There is a standard of these cats in TICA.
